Private versus legal
The science is identical. A private test skips the identity verification, witnessing, and chain-of-custody paperwork, so the report is for your knowledge only and is not intended for court, child support, custody, or any agency. If there is any chance you'll need the result officially, choose the legal test. A private result cannot be upgraded afterward; the samples would need to be collected again.
Why come in instead of buying a kit
- No waiting for a kit to arrive, then mailing it back. You're swabbed at your appointment and the sealed samples go out on the next overnight shipment.
- Collection done correctly the first time. A home swab done wrong has to be repeated, which starts the clock over.
- A real person to answer your questions. We tell you who needs to attend and what happens next.
Who needs to attend
- Alleged father and child, at the same appointment.
- Mother, optional and free. Recommended for a stronger result.
- If the child is under 18 and the parents are not married to each other, the mother must consent. This applies to private tests too; we do not collect from a minor without a parent or guardian with legal authority.
What to bring
- Photo ID for every adult, so we know who we're collecting from.
- For a minor, the consenting parent attends with their ID.
